We aim to inspire and engage aspiring young entrepreneurs in finding sustainable solutions to WEFE Nexus challenges across the Mediterranean region. Through collaboration and creative problem-solving, participants will be encouraged to develop business ideas that have a positive social and environmental impact.
Besides engaging crash courses to strengthen your entrepreneurial skills, we have planned energizers, fun team-building exercises, and social activities to help you interact with other young entrepreneurs from across the Mediterranean region.
The three most promising solutions will be selected on the final day and will receive technical and financial support in the following months.
The WEFE (Water, Energy, Food and Ecosystems) Nexus is an approach that recognises the interdependence and interconnectedness of these three sectors. For example, energy production often requires water for cooling or hydroelectric power, while food production is heavily reliant on both water and energy for irrigation, processing, and transportation.
We’re looking for innovative solutions that address the challenges and opportunities within the WEFE Nexus. This could involve anything from developing more efficient irrigation technologies to exploring alternative energy sources with a lower water footprint.
The hackathon will take place over three days in Fes, Morocco, and will include structured training sessions, periods of intensive group work, peer exchange, mentor guidance, and opportunities for team-building activities.
The hackathon is designed to be interactive. You’ll work in teams to develop your solutions, with coaches available to guide you through exercises and check in throughout the hackathon.
A panel of jurors will select the three most promising ideas. The first-place team will be awarded 3,000 EUR, and the two runner-up teams will receive 1,000 EUR each. The conditions will be communicated during the training and will be based on need, team performance, and validation of the pilot project.
Additionally, the winning teams from the hackathon will receive continuous access to online support from Cewas and YWS trainers, as well as external experts as needed.
